Applying eyeshadow is my favourite step in the beauty routine. Beauty routines can get boring with the same procedure in applying your foundation, concealers, eyebrows etc but with eyeshadows, its get excited. Bold eyeshadows for the days you want to feel seen or heard, nude eyeshadows for the day you want to be flirty, Colours for any day you want to express yourself. Today, we are going to equip ourselves with basic eyeshadow tip and skills. (FUN FACT: Eye shadow existence can be traced back to Ancient Egypt, where they used famous substance called kohl (made out from lead, oxidized copper, ochre, ash, malachite, crushed antimony, burnt almonds and chrysocolla ore) for religious purposes or to alter their appearance).
1. Know the part of your eyes.
2. Use an eyeshadow primer or concealer Using a primer or concealer on your eyelids creates a blank surface for your colours which helps your colours pop out. They also help your eyeshadow last longer. (TIP: The whiter the base, the vibrant the colours)
3. Always have Transition Shade (3) Transition Shades are mostly browns or oranges. They serve as a buffer between colours and adjust one colour of eyeshadow into another. For instance, when you use a dark smokey brown on your lid and a much lighter highlight on your brow bone, you should have a transition colour between the two. It will make the dark colour look like it gradually diffuses out into the lightest shade. (TIP: Swipe your transition colour slightly above your crease and into your crease with a fluffy brush or a crease brush. Make sure it properly diffused)
4. Use a dark colour for your Outer V (5) The Outer V refers to the area between the end of your lashline and your crease. You can feel where your outer “V” is by feeling very gently with your finger for where your eyeball ends and the bone begins. Applying a dark shadow to your outer V creates a dimension and depth to your makeup look. (TIP: People with monolid eyes can also create an outer V by patting the darkest shadow on in a v shape, elongating the eye and taking the “V” up into their crease area).
5. Use your eyelid color (4) After blending the colour into your outer V, its now time to pat your overall colour onto your lid (4). It can be a matte or shimmer depending on your choice. If you are feeling fancy, you can add a color to your tear duct or inner corner (2) to make your eyes appear bright.
Wheeew! You have made it to the end, Congratulations. Now you can create your stunning eyelook. Remember, you need at least three colors to create an eyelook. I for your transition shade or crease, 1 for your outer V and another for your eyelid.
